About
Where do we come from? Ever since I was a child, I was fascinated by this question. Lying in my bed I tried to imagine the size of space. If space could fit in a shoebox, then how big would the world be? And how big would I be? As small as a dust particle, or even smaller?Today, I recognize this fascination in science: astronomers search for answers by looking into space, while physicians try to unravel the laws of nature by searching for the smallest particles.Scientific data, maps of the stars and the planets, and books about space travel and as-tronomy are the basis for my artworks: installations, artist’s books and collages.I love working with paper and textiles and enjoy the great diversity in these materials. The use of paper also refers to the recording of scientific data. Thanks to their pliabilty, paper and textiles are very useful for hand work, such as embroidery and cutting. My preference of working by hand is a metaphor for thinking about these apparently unan-swerable questions. Finding answers takes time, commitment and concentration. By choosing materials like paper and textiles, I emphasize the ephemeral and light quality of the works while the chosen techniques give them a very detailed character.
